In Loving Memory Of

A. Jean Henry

1934 - 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of A. Jean (Simpson) Henry of St. Stephen, NB, at the Charlotte County Hospital on Thursday October 9, 2025.

Jean is the daughter of the late Percy and Grace Simpson.

A familiar face in the community, Jean spent many years working in the insurance industry, beginning her career with Flewelling Insurance Agency after graduating from NBCC in 1975. She gave over 50 years of dedicated service to the Heritage Chapter of the IODE and was an active supporter of numerous local organizations including the St. Stephen Curling Club, St. Stephen Chamber of Commerce, Citizens on Patrol, the Charlotte County Hospital Gift Shop and both the St. Stephen Baptist Church and Kirk McColl United Church.

Above all, Jean found joy in supporting her family. Whether cheering at hockey games, soccer matches, curling bonspiels, or dance recitals, she was always in the crowd, beaming with pride. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome—her door always open, her heart always listening, and her hands always ready to help.

Though she made her home in St. Stephen, Jean’s heart remained in L’etete, where she was born. She cherished Sundays spent visiting her parents, laughter shared with her siblings and joyful years with Stuart at the cottage. The community, the friendships and the family ties she held dear brought her great happiness throughout her life.

Jean was the devoted wife and best friend of Stuart Henry for 19 years, a loving mother to the late Jacalyn (Don) Hulsman, Chris (Gail) Hatt, Stephen (Brenda) Hatt, Mikki Hatt (Judy), and Anne (Andy) Small, proud grandmother to Brad Hulsman, Jesse (Kristy) Hulsman, Nick Hatt, Josh (Sherri) Hatt, Stacey (Jason) Desrosiers, Troy (Darbi) Hatt, Andrew (Natasha) Reid, Dan (Nicole) Reid, Alex (Amy) Reid, Mitchell (Kaitlin) Small and Carter (Sara) Small. Jean’s legacy continues through her shared 17 beloved great grandchildren and being a wonderful stepmother to Brian and the entire family. She also leaves behind her dear friend, Betty Moulton.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter; Jacalyn (Jackie) Hulsman, her sister and brother-in-law; Doris and Maurice Melnyk, brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Valores Simpson, nephew; Gerry Melnyk and niece; Kelly (Simpson) Cooke.

Jean's love, compassion, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the countless lives she impacted and the love she so freely gave.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at the Union Street Baptist Church in St. Stephen, NB, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 1:00 p.m.
