Tony Curran
1953 - 2023
After a brief illness, the family of Tony A. Curran are saddened to announce his passing at home in St. Stephen, NB on Thursday October 5, 2023, just a few short months after his 70th birthday.
Born in St. Stephen, N.B., Tony was the son of the late Ronald and Elizabeth "Betty" (Greenier) Curran, and was raised in Upper Mills, NB.
Tony was a long time Mason, being first a member of Alley Lodge in Upper Mills, and then of Victoria Lodge in St. Stephen. He was also a member of the Luxor Shriners in Saint John, NB and the Schoodic Shrine Club of Washington County, ME, as well as a past member of the Luxor Clown Unit.
Over the years, Tony enjoyed hunting, fishing, ATV rides, tending bar at the Legion for many years, many trips to NASCAR tracks, and camping.
He was a dedicated employee of NB Power for over 40 years and in his retirement continued to work for numerous private contractors, and most recently E & E Powerline, in various parts of Canada, the US and the Caribbean, when it was needed most. There’s no doubt that his eyes would light up when a storm was brewing – he knew he would be called to "get the lights on".
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Sharon "Sherri" (Pelletier), and his sons, Jay (Amanda) and Joel (Tracey), both of St. Stephen, and daughter-in-law, Stacy Curran (Paul), of Digdeguash. He also leaves behind the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Allison (Joey), Breanna, Jayden, Ethan and Mya, and step-grandchildren, Rebecca Dow (Danny) and Aaron Devereaux.
Tony also leaves behind his siblings, Jerry, Leslie (Janie), Darrell (Nancy) and Debbie, all from the St. Stephen area, and brothers-in-law, Doug Pelletier (Lisa) of Calais, ME. and Kevin Pelletier of Santa Monica, CA. Also, to mourn his passing are his special uncle and aunt, Charles & Ardell Curran, his special cousin, Sonny & Melanie Curran, a very special man, John McEachern, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by son Michael in 2007, and brothers Dennis and Morgan, his in-laws, Harold and Francina Pelletier, and brother-in-law, Dennis Pelletier, of Calais, ME.
In keeping with Tony’s wishes, cremation will take place. Funeral service will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 2 pm. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm with a Masonic service at 7 pm on Friday.
