Shirley McMahon passed away peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B. on Monday, December 26, 2022.
Shirley was born in 1925, daughter of the late Theodore and Bessie (McMorran) Sabine. She was the eldest of three siblings, brother Waldron Sabine and her sister, Joyce McKim who predeceased her. Shirley’s love of her life was her husband Patrick McMahon who predeceased her in 1989.
Shirley spent 42 years working at Harvey Studios in St. Stephen and was a very valued employee. She loved her job and proudly said this was her only job but was forced to retire early due to health issues. After a lengthy hospital stay in Saint John and Halifax, Shirley beat her lung problem and she and Pat hit the road. They travelled extensively until Pat’s death. They were always together to make up the time they missed in the earlier years of their romance.
Shirley was an exceptional volunteer and was known to canvas and organize campaigns for various charities in the area. She could be seen selling tickets at the Charlotte Mall, Superstore, Curling Club, Moores Mills Fire Department to name a few. She was the Waweig Camp Grannie and spent many hours there and loved it. She was the recipient of CTV’s Maritimer of the Week Award as well as the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal.
Shirley is survived by her brother, Waldron Sabine of Moores Mills, N.B. and his family, Karen Sabine of Riverview, N.B., Wilbert and Heather Sabine of Lakeville Corner, N.B., Wanda Coyne of St. Stephen, N.B. and Robert Sabine of Saint John, N.B. She is also survived by her nieces; Janie McKim of St. Stephen, N.B., Lana McKim of St. Stephen, N.B., Jo-Anne and Ted Moody of Barter Settlement, N.B., stepson Barry McMahon of St. Stephen, N.B., nephew-in-law, Joe and Cindy McMahon of St. Stephen, N.B., as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
