In Loving Memory Of

Sally A. Carvell

1952 - 2026

After a brief illness, fought with dignity and grace, Sally A. Carvell, passed away with her family and friends by her side at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital Fredericton, NB, on Wednesday October 7, 2026.

Sally was born in 1952, McAdam, NB., the daughter of the late Mary and Pete Estabrooks

McAdam wasn't simply the place Sally was born and lived—it was home. It was where she worked, raised her girls, built lifelong friendships and became a familiar and much-loved face to so many.

Sally was the beloved wife of the late George Carvell and the proud mother of their two daughters; Sarah Wark and Amy Savoy (Kyle). But her greatest joy in life was her grandson, Dax Savoy.

The bond between Sally and Dax was something truly special. She never missed an after school pick up, welcomed him for countless sleepovers and was always his biggest fan. You could find her in the stands at his basketball games, cheering loudly—not only for Dax, but for his friends as well. Dax was her reason for living and the love between them was unmistakable to anyone fortunate enough to witness it.

Sally's personality was second to none. She was always smiling and she had a way of making people feel loved and welcomed. You might not have known Sally when you walked through the door, but you certainly knew Sally when you left. She didn’t ever let you leave without a warm hug, a smile, a kiss on the cheek and an “I love you.”

She was so kind, lived a simple life and loved deeply. Sally was also known for being wonderfully emotional. She cried at the happiest moments—a Christmas concert, a basketball victory, a Blue Jays win (Go Kirky Go) or even a birthday card. Her heart was always so close to the surface.

Sally spent many of her working years in McAdam. She was a familiar face at Shirley's Diner, Ted's Variety and the Pharmacy. To many in the community, she was affectionately known as “Mama Sal”. She formed a particularly special bond with the girls (& Ryan too) at the drug store, friendships that meant so much to her and became another important part of her family.

Sally leaves behind her 2 daughters; Sarah and Amy, her "favorite" son-in-law Kyle and her beloved grandson Dax. She will also be deeply missed by her extended family, including Richard Carvell, Bev Langille, Jerry Moffitt, Ed and Val Paquet, Julie Gaudet-Sooley, Maureen Knight and Janis Casavant, the many special Sherman cousins, who were George's family but became Sally’s family too.

She was predeceased by her husband; George, her parents; Mary and Pete Estabrooks, her sister and best friend; Jane Moffitt and her brothers-in-law; Bobby and Wayne Carvell, her dear friends; Irene Blair, Debbie Dawson, Laura Day, Janet Melanson and Lucy Anderson.

As the saying goes "It Takes a Village". Our village of McAdam has shown us just how true those words are.

During Sally's hospital stay, close to 90 people came to visit her; family, friends, neighbours, former coworkers, members of the community and surrounding areas came through her door simply because they loved her. The visits, messages, many ice caps, prayers, hugs and countless acts of kindness have carried our family through some of the hardest days imaginable.

She was “Mama Sal”, she was “Mom”, she was “Nannie”. She was the woman who hugged you, kissed your cheek, told you she loved you and probably made you laugh without even knowing she had done it.

And to us, she was so much more.

Mom, we hope you know how deeply you are loved. We hope you can see all the people whose lives you touched and all the love that surrounds you. Your smile and laughter, your tears and all the wonderful life lessons will live within us for the rest of our lives.

Rest peacefully, “Mama Sal”.

Your wings are ready our hearts will never be. You are loved beyond measure.

As per Sally’s wishes, there will be services. A celebration to follow for all family and friends to attend to in the spring 2027.

The family ask for donations in Mama Sal’s name, can be made to The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Lakeland Industries or to the donor of one's choice. Condolences can be made to the family online at www.mehanfuneralhome.ca
