Our family’s, "Roy-of-all-trades", Roy Carvell passed away Saturday, September7, 2024, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, next to his loving wife of 67 years.
Roy fought to the end always excited for the next opportunity to be with his kids. His family will miss his stories, wisdom, and tea parties. He was a gifted craftsman, man of God, and eager to always learn.
Roy W. Carvell was born and raised in the small railroad town of McAdam, New Brunswick to the late Bill and Frances (Speedy) Carvell, their first of five children.
Roy started working very young. He was always a tinkerer and problem solver, which served him well as he picked up all sorts of jobs in a variety of industries through-out his life.
At 20 years old, Roy married Phyllis. As newlyweds, they moved to Hamilton, Ontario for a short time but ended up calling McAdam home for most of his life. Roy and Phyllis welcomed their daughter, Debra and son, David.
Roy established and led Lakeland Industries in McAdam, one of his proudest achievements. Under his vision and management, Lakeland grew to be an integral part of the community and crucial resource for adults with disabilities.
Roy loved learning and trying new things. His life can remind us of all of the importance of personal interests and hobbies. He made time to focus on things he was passionate about. Over the years, he proved that if he took interest in something, he would become an expert at it. Roy Carvell didn’t do anything halfway.
Roy had a strong faith and found great comfort in his religion. He shared his wisdom and compassion with many who crossed his path over the years. He was a dedicated father and grandfather, making countless trips down the east coast to spend time with his family. He was an incredibly playful and doting great-grandfather, perhaps his favorite job of all. He has left many lives full of memories of laughter and love. He will be dearly missed but we take comfort in knowing that he has instilled his creativity, curiosity and determination throughout his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He leaves behind his wife Phyllis C. Carvell, daughter Debra Ferguson and son, David Carvell, grandchildren Aaron (Liz) Ferguson and Ashley (Brian) Ferguson Henske, his five cherished great-granddaughters; brother Gary (Debbie) Carvell; sister’s Arlene (Frank) Poirier and Irma Vance (Reg Munn).
In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by one sister, Carol Ann Heath (Carvell).
A funeral service will be held on Saturday September 14, 2024 at 11:00 am from Gateway Cathedral Church, 18 West Street, St Stephen.
Following the service, family will receive friends at the church.
Interment will be held at the Rockland Cemetery, McAdam, NB at 2:30 pm on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
