In Loving Memory Of

Robert F. Johnston

1962 - 2026

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Robert F. Johnston at the Saint John Regional Hospital Saint John, NB, on Monday, October 12, 2026.

Robert and his triplet brothers were born to the late Kenny and Jean (Weeks) Johnston in 1962, St Stephen, NB.

They had only been expecting one and then two and then three arrived. Robert was born first with the other two following two minutes later. Since they all weighed only three pounds and a few ounces, they stayed in the Charlotte County Hospital sharing the only two available incubators until they each weighed five pounds. After much anticipation and scurrying around to get more bassinets and baby clothes, they arrived home in Moore’s Mills on Thanksgiving weekend. The Johnston family would never again be the same and neither would Moore’s Mills nor St. Stephen.

Robert was known to have nicknames for everyone and was known by many different names such as “Robbie”, “Bobby J-Mayor of Moores Mills”, “P. Waterberry Augustus Triple Chain Lightning Junior” and “Fran Man”.

After learning the skills of the auto trade from the business owned by his parents, Causeway Motors, and while all the boys had their dad’s mechanical abilities, it was Robert who set up his own business, Hi-Tech Transmission in Moore’s Mills.

Like his dad, Robert never got rich at anything because his kind and generous heart ruled his fee schedule, if he even managed to charge you for the work he had done. If something was broken, he knew how to fix it.

The Moore’s Mills School was only minutes away and the Moore’s Mills Lake where they spent their summers was only a short walk away. The three boys could not be kept out of the water. They were all like fish and seemed to have been born knowing how to swim. The water and boats were one of their passions. Robert watched with pride as his son Brandan built a boat for the lake this summer.

Robert leaves behind his wife, Pam (Fiander) of 34 years and married for 28 years and their twin children; Brandi (Jake) and Brandan (Brianna), his chocolate lab Buck, and his cat Dozer.

Robert spent his entire life in Moore’s Mills within a mile of his brothers. He and Pam raised their children on the very property Robert grew up on. There was always at least one dog and two cats as part of their family
It is well known in the Johnston family that the most important decision Robert ever made was talking Pam into marrying him. As illness took its toll on Robert, it was her love, strength and determination combined with the dedication of their children Brandan and Brandi, who had chosen a career in nursing, that blessed Robert in the final years of his life.

His loving memory will live on in his triplet brothers; Randall (Layla) and Rodney (Tanya), brother; Marshall (Syreena), sisters; Teresa (Robert Dickerson), Brenda (David Sansom), Marlene Moore, his beloved nephew; Tarron, several nieces and nephews, special cousin; Todd, as well as many great nieces and nephews and cousins in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Robert is also fondly remembered by his mother in law; Sheila Fiander, sister-in-law; Patti Smythe (Gerry) and brother-in-law; Micheal Fiander (Ann), as well as many cherished friends.

Robert is predeceased by his parents Ken Johnston and Jean (Weeks), nephew; Damien Rice, father-in-law; Vance Fiander and brother-in-law; Mark Fiander.

Robert’s legacy are his children and his many acts of kindness to his friends who benefitted from his loving and generous nature.

Robert was much loved and many of us knew what his last words to us would be — “ love you more ”.

Funeral service will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home, 23 Main Street St Stephen, NB on Friday October 16, 2026, at 2 pm. Visitation will be held Friday from 12 pm until service time.
