Richard W Purcell

Richard W. Purcell passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B. on Monday April 17, 2023.

Born in St. Stephen, N.B. son of the late James and Sandra Purcell.

His working career spanned three different organizations including a local supermarket chain (Save-Easy), Ganong Bros Ltd., and the St Croix Vocational Centre. In addition, he had a passion for sports.  He was a star first baseman for the Sabres baseball club and went on to coach and mentor young players in both baseball and basketball in the local St. Stephen community. His work with local organizations included the Charlotte County Hospital Foundation, Lincourt Manor, Lonicera Hall and St, Croix Vocational Center.  

Richard is survived by his wife Lynn, daughter Andrea McCray (Brad), two granddaughters Isabelle & Hillary and his brother David. Along with many cousins, aunts, uncles, and family members.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Milltown Blvd., St. Stephen, N.B. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 11 AM. The family will receive friends at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 6-8 PM.
