Murray Kelly Anthony Sweeney passed away early Saturday morning, January 7, 2006 in hospital at the Queen Elizabeth II Infirmary in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born on August 15, 1927 in Montreal, Quebec to Francis and Jean Sweeney he was predeceased the week prior by his life's partner of 55 years, Connie. Such was the bond between the two that in life they did everything together so it is only by God's Divine grace that they should depart this world together. Murray's two sons Robert H. (Bob) and his wife Liza of St. Stephen, N.B. and William M. (Bill) now residing in St. Albert, Alberta were at his side in his last days. Murray is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan of High Prairie, Alberta and Kim of St. Albert, Alberta, Clint Simmons and his wife Traci of Fredericton, N.B.; great grandson, Luke Simmons of Fredericton, N.B.; brother Frank of Burlington, Ontario; nephew Mike Sweeney and his wife Jan of Halifax, Nova Scotia; along with several nieces and nephews. Murray was also predeceased by his daughter-in-law Heather, wife of Bill Sweeney this past August. By his example, Murray taught both of his sons the lessons of life about commitment to marriage and family as he dedicated all that he had to both. Upon his retirement in 1974 from his rank as Captain with the Canadian Armed Forces, Murray took a position in the Auditor General's Office with the City of Halifax retiring as the Senior City Auditor in 1994. He was an avid golfer who could be found on the links of Nova Scotia from Spring to Fall with Connie, rain or shine. Besides his family and golf, Murray's passion was hockey, as a player, a coach and in his retirement as an avid Halifax Mooseheads fan. He loved to share the game with his other season ticket holders who he always referred to as his 'hockey buddies'. Murray will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Joint Memorial Service was held with his wife, Connie, on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 2:00pm at the Union Street Atlantic Baptist Church in St. Stephen, N.B with Rev. Dr. Garth Williams officiating. Family received friends at the church hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. S.O.
