M. Joyce Walker

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of M. "Joyce" (MacEachern) Walker, 83, of St. Stephen, NB, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, while surrounded by the love of her family, at the Charlotte County Hospital, St Stephen, NB

Joyce was born in St. Stephen, NB, to the late Francis "Frank" and Edith (Pead) MacEachern.

A cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Joyce lived a life rich in love, laughter, and creativity.

A dedicated homemaker, Joyce took immense pride in her family, always making sure to celebrate birthdays, Easter, and Christmas with thoughtful gifts, including her famous chocolate-covered Easter eggs and carefully chosen cards. Her culinary talents were unparalleled and she was known for her baking, canning, and pickling. From growing grapes and making grape jelly to preparing rhubarb for pies and punch, her kitchen was a place of warmth and delicious aromas.

Joyce had a deep passion for music, starting with piano at a young age. She shared her gift by directing choirs, playing the organ at church, and even enjoyed a stint with the guitar. During her time living in Fredericton, she was a member of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society and participated in their musicals. Her beautiful singing voice and musical talents were a cornerstone of her life. She was also an avid participant in choirs and choral groups throughout the years, and her love for music was evident to all who knew her.

A woman of many talents and interests, Joyce was an accomplished quilter and seamstress. Her quilts, some of which were auctioned, are treasured keepsakes for many family members. She was also a skilled bridge player and enjoyed weekly card parties, along with bingo, crossword puzzles, and watching game shows.

Joyce had many wonderful friends with whom she shared many interests and spent a lot of time. She loved them dearly, and we know they will miss her.

In her community, Joyce held leadership roles as President of the New Glasgow Catholic Woman’s League and the Hospital Auxiliary. Her work extended beyond her home, including cooking at children’s camps, the NB Youth Jail, and various seniors' homes, along with her roles at Dominion grocery stores and Sears.

Despite her many roles, her greatest joy was always her family. She cherished every moment spent with them and was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.

Joyce had a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and the characteristic MacEachern stubbornness that endeared her to all who knew her. She loved to travel and, though she couldn't do as much as she wanted, fond memories include trips to Utah to see her daughter Heather and a memorable cruise with her sister Joan.

Her legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will live on through the countless lives she touched.

Joyce is survived by her loving family, brother, Allan (Stephanie) MacEachern; sisters, Joan (the late Dave) Thompson and Julie (Donnie) Stone; daughters, Dr. Heather Walker and Wendy (Robert) Murphy; sons, Mark (Tammy Farrell-Walker) Walker, Michael (Angela) Walker, Donnie (Maritza Guerrero) Walker and Duncan Walker (Amanda Waye); grandchildren, Sarah Murphy, Neil (Janine) Murphy, Kenneth (Shelley) Murphy, Carter Miller, Rebecca Walker (Ian Scott), Rachel Walker (Riley Connelly), Michelle (Bryan) Airey, Andy Walker, Alex Walker, Mitchell Walker (Anna Puscasu), Justin Walker, Daniel Walker and Chloe Walker; great-grandchildren, Grady Murphy, Jesse Murphy, Isla Murphy, Emerie Murphy, Theo Murphy, Sienna Murphy, Sabrina Walker, Dallan Walker and Alexander "Ender" Walker; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and her cats, whom she loved very much.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Don "Butch" Walker.

Joyce will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family would like to make special mention of Joyce’s cousin, Hugh MacEachern, who lived with her for the past decade. Hugh’s companionship, assistance and ability to match her in stubbornness helped Joyce to remain independent and in her own home. We are forever grateful to him.

In accordance with Joyce’s wishes there will be no visitation.

A private family graveside service will take place in the Milltown Roman Catholic Cemetery, Barter Settlement, NB.
