The passing of a beautiful soul we were privileged to call Mom, Lucille Matheson, occurred on January 23, 2026, at Lincourt Manor in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, after a lengthy illness.
Mom was born in 1939 at Bathurst, N.B. to Evelyn and Clarence Babineau.
She spent most of her life in Bathurst, where she held various jobs, though being a mom was by far her favourite role. She was the “bestest” Grandma to her grandsons. She had a great passion for music—especially Elvis Presley—and loved to dance. Forever in motion, she found joy in baking, with her pie crust being legendary, closely followed by her boiled frosting and Scotch cookies. She also enjoyed bingo, bowling, and, most of all, the company of family and friends. Always smiling and lending a helping hand, she brought warmth wherever she went.
She leaves behind her spouse of 64 years, Albert; daughters Sylvia Matheson-MacLean (Andy), Shirley Black (Henry), and Sandra Strang (Kevin); four grandchildren, Douglas MacLean (Kim), Matthew MacLean (Nevada), Travis Strang (Kristen), and Derek Strang (Candice); and eight great-grandchildren, Bella, Riley, Theodore, Cali, Harper, Brady, Ethan and Amelia. She is also survived by her siblings: Betty Marion (Matt, predeceased), Roger (Bernadette), and Marjorie (Albert), numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins—too many to mention, but all deeply loved.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Larry and brother- in- law, Matt.
She was truly blessed with her family away from home at Lincourt Manor. The staff were exceptionally kind and caring to her and to our family, and we are forever grateful for the love she felt there. ❤️
“Her laughter, her wisdom, her gentle embrace—
All memories time cannot erase.
Though she’s no longer by our side,
In our hearts she’ll always reside.”
