Laurie J. McVay

The family of Laurie J. (Mitchell) McVay are saddened to announce her sudden passing at her home on Thursday October 31, 2024, in St Andrews, NB.

Laurie is the daughter of Donna Mitchell and the late Peter Mitchell (2020).

In her younger years, Laurie was involved in competitive figure skating and taught for several years.  She also helped start the Speed Skating Program in St Stephen, NB.

For many years she was a kindergarten teacher at the Milltown Elementary School in St Stephen, NB. Her plans were to retire in June 2025. 

Laurie is survived by her mother; Donna Mitchell, husband; Michael K. McVay, stepson; Justin McVay, stepdaughter; Kristyn Giddens (Andrew) and their children; Alexandra, Lia and Miller, mother-in-law; Norma VanDevander, brother-in-law; Daniel McVay (Caroline), sister-in-law, Kelly Nixon (Norm), uncle Glendon Saunders (Connie), aunts; Nancy Mitchell Dumas and Mary Mitchell Ferguson (Charles), her mother’s and her friend, originally from Bangladesh, Reza, her black cat; Cole and many cousins.

The family will receive friends and memories will be shared at S.O. Mehan and Son Funeral Home Ltd, 23 Main Street St Stephen, NB on Saturday November 9, 2024 from 12 – 2 pm.
