L. Ian “Moose” MacMichael

It is with broken hearts the family of L. Ian "Moose" MacMichael announce his unexpected passing on Friday June 28, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital Saint John, N.B.

Born in Moncton, N.B., son of the late Frank and Ruth MacMichael.

Moose loved all sports, especially hockey.  A hockey scholarship is what took him to Horton Academy Sackville, NB where he graduated in 1958.  Later, he attended Mount Allison for a year, and then went on to Moncton Tech to become a teacher.

In 1962, he moved to St Stephen, N.B. to take his first teaching position.  He didn’t leave. Along with teaching Construction he also taught Driver Education in all of Charlotte County.  He was proud to say he had taught for fifty years, including St Stephen Middle School and St Stephen High School.  After retirement, he was still an instructor for Driver’s Education.  He spoke often of his love of teaching and how he "had fun" for fifty years. He touched the lives of countless students over the years.

Sports was still a very huge part of his life.  He was a member of the championship Aces team in 1962 – 1963.  He was a founding member of St Stephen Minor Hockey, where he coached for many years. 

In his spare time, he also worked as an Electrician.

Moose was a lifetime member of Knights of Pythias and a volunteer to many organizations in Charlotte County.

He was proud to say he was the "Mayor of Victor Street" and "Deputy Mayor of Boundary Street".

A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Moose is survived by son, Jon, daughter, Jennifer, three grandsons, Randy Madsen (Kelsey), Jesse Scott (Val) and Thomas MacMichael (Abby), two special great grandchildren, Quinn and Asher Ian Madsen and partner Carol Purcell, brother-in-law, Ken Beck (Carmen), and sister-in-law, Valerie MacMichael, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by wife, Jeanne, daughter, Leslie, and brother Robert.

Funeral service will be held at The S.O. Mehan and Son Funeral Home Ltd, 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. on Thursday July 4, 2024, at 2 pm.  Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 pm until service time.

Interment at Oak Bay Cemetery, Oak Bay, N.B.
