Kenneth Dewar
1934 - 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Dewar at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB. on Tuesday, October 22, 2019.
Born in St Stephen, NB., son of the late Herbert and May Dewar.
Ken is survived by his sister, Ruth and brother-in-law Bill Hannon of Milford, Maine, sister-in-law, Judy Dewar of St. Stephen, NB., nephews: Lane Dewar and Larry Hannon, nieces: Diane Fillmore, Bonnie Richards, Heather Cleveland, Joanne Levkoe and Janet Monaghan, several great-nieces, great nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law: Herbert and Lillian Dewar, brother, James Dewar and special friend, Olive Hoffman.
Ken graduated from Milltown High School receiving the Beaverbrook Scholar Award in 1951. He then moved to Fredericton to obtain a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. He worked for the Province of New Brunswick before leaving for Ottawa, Ontario, where he studied at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario to pursue his professional accounting designation and become a Chartered Accountant. Upon his graduation he worked for the federal government in the Excise Branch of Revenue Canada until his retirement.
Ken was a great philanthropist during his life donating to many charities and organizations as well as the University of New Brunswick which gave him his start in life and was always giving to his family.
He travelled extensively with friends and enjoyed visiting many parts of the world.
Ken also loved to watch tennis, curling and his favorite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays.
After living in Ottawa for 40+ years, Ken moved to Fredericton in October 2018 to be closer to family.
A graveside service will be held at the St. Stephen Rural Cemetery, St. Stephen, NB. on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 2 PM. There will be no visitation held.
