Kathleen Elsie Smith

SMITH - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen Elsie (Scott) Smith, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB, on October 31, 2010. Born March 26, 1934 in McAdam, NB, she was the widow of Ralph Clarence Smith and daughter of the late John Clarence and Christine Gertrude (Sutherland) Scott. Mom was truly "one of a kind". Although she was faced with much illness during her lifetime, she always carried with her a strong constitution and a sense of determination. Mom had a strong faith which helped her through many difficult times. Without doubt, her family was what mattered most to her in life, and she enjoyed her role as matriarch of the family. She was a kind, wonderful mother and grandmother and a loyal friend. She was very involved in her community, serving as an elder at St. Paul's United Church in McAdam, and also as a member of the United Church Women, IODE, and the Rebekah Lodge. She also sang in the church choir, served as a Girl Guide leader, kindergarten teacher, on the board of Lakeland Industries, as a Laubach Literacy volunteer, as well as contributing countless volunteer hours to her community. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.She is survived by two sons: Harold (Shirley) Smith of Peel, NB, and Eric (Heather) Smith of Bathurst, NB; three daughters: Tammy Smith of Fredericton, Kelly (Troy) Smith Lunn of McAdam, and Andrea Smith of McAdam; as well as eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by 3 brothers: Henry Scott of McAdam, Gerald Scott of McAdam, and John/Jack (Joan) Scott of Fredericton; brother-in-law John (Marie) Smith of Moncton, NB; sisters-in-law Jean Campbell of Perth-Andover, NB, Dorothy Andrews of Charlton, Massachusetts, and Barbara Miller of Edson, AB; and several nieces and nephews. Resting at the St. Paul's United Church, Saunders Road, McAdam, NB from where the funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 3:30 PM. Visiting hours will be held at the church on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Interment will be at Rockland Cemetery, McAdam. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Diabetic Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.
