SHORT, JOHN ELIAS- Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital St. Stephen, N.B.,on Friday, September 8, 2006. Born in St. Stephen, N.B. in 1926. He was the son of the late Harry Wall Short and Ethel Mildred Hulsman. Survived by his beloved wife, Veronica (Vera) of 57 years, his daughter, Jane (Jeff) Hatton, two sons, John Mark (Sarah) and Derek (Melanie), one granddaughter, Molly. Resting The S.O. Mehan and Son Funeral Home Ltd. 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. with visiting on Sunday, September 10, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church on Monday September 11, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Paul Riley officiating.Interment at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.John was employed in the wholesale grocery business by both G.E. Barbour Co. Ltd. and McKim Giddens Co. Ltd., eventually promoted to manager of both companies, Charlotte County Division. At the time of his retirement in 1991, he was purchasing manager for Flakeboard Co. Ltd. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, a retired member of Purchasing Management Association of Canada, a member of Northwest Commercial Travelers Association, a former member of the Senior’s St. Stephen Curling Club, a life member of St. Croix Branch #9 Royal Canadian Legion and a life member of the St. Croix Country Club, where he enjoyed many games of golf. He was a cadet instructor from 1950-1982. John was also well known for his involvement with the Cadet Drum and Bugle Band.
