In Loving Memory Of

Jaylan E. Hatt

2006 - 2026

With heavy hearts, the family of Jaylan E. Hatt announces her sudden and unexpected passing, with her dear aunt Krista by her side on Friday August 14, 2026, in Meddybemps, Maine.

Born in 2006, in Saint John, NB, daughter of Jennifer Hatt.

With a hole in her heart, Jaylan proved she was a fighter from the very beginning.

She grew up in St. Stephen, NB and spent several years in Grande Prairie, AB, where she loved attending hula-hoop classes with her special friends, Gracyn and Bella and watching her brother, Jaxon, race dirt bikes.

She loved her school, her classmates and her chocolate lab, Jessie, but her heart was always home in NB. Upon returning to St. Stephen, she was happiest on the basketball court during her middle school years; making the travel team was a proud accomplishment.

Jaylan graduated from St. Stephen High School St. Stephen, NB, in 2024 and began working at the Boys and Girls Club of Charlotte County, where her love for children made her a favourite caregiver. She recognized in children an innocence to be protected and cherished, she loved watching their personalities and childhoods unfold.

She will be especially missed by her dear friend, Aeris Hachey, who she loved like a sister and who brought so much joy to Jaylan’s life.

Jaylan had an old hippie soul and loved her family, friends and music. She listened to everything from Lil Peep to Sublime, finding in each song a different emotion, memory, or piece of herself.

Even though she had a special connection with children, she also had a special connection with animals. Jaylan would get right down on the floor to play with them, meeting them on their level and making them feel safe.

Children were naturally drawn to her and even dogs wary of others seemed to sense they could trust her. She had a remarkable ability to notice when someone needed a friend and never hesitated to be one.

Fiercely loyal and unafraid to speak up, she stood beside the people she loved and wouldn’t ever quietly allow someone to be mistreated.

Jaylan will be deeply missed by friends from all walks of life.

Although Jaylan faced struggles that shaped and challenged her, those struggles never diminished her capacity to love. She found the courage to speak not only for herself but also for others who needed someone to be their voice. More than anything, she wanted to love and to be loved by those closest to her.

Left to mourn Jaylan’s loss and carry forward her voice are; her loving mother, Jennifer Hatt, and her pride and joy, her little brother; Jaxon Hatt, both of St. Stephen, NB, her devoted grandparents; Priscilla and Danny Hatt of Mayfield, NB, Donnie and Debbie Matheson of Brockway, NB, Jamie and Holly Woodside of St. Stephen, NB, aunt; Krista Hanson (Troy) of Meddybemps, ME, uncle; Jason Hatt, special cousin; Caleb Hatt of St. Stephen, NB, her protective and loving uncles Kyle Matheson (Amanda), Cody Matheson (Holly Ann), Keaton Matheson (Shyla), and Tarron Lister (Cass), her godmother; Trisha Roy (Joey) and her godfather; Jonny Gullison. Jaylan will also be lovingly remembered by her many special aunts and uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles, cousins, friends and all those whose lives she touched.

In Jaylan’s own words:

“Forgive me if I have ever hurt you while learning how to fight the darkness this world revealed to me when I was only a little girl. I have carried things that changed me, challenged me, and forced me to grow in ways I never expected. But through every storm, every wound, and every version of myself I had to become to survive, one thing has remained unchanged: my voice. And for that, I am endlessly grateful.”
