F. Theresa Thomas

With sadness the family of F. Theresa Thomas, 85, announces her passing on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen, NB. 

Theresa, as she was known to her family, was born and lived most of her life in her beloved New Brunswick.  She grew up in Plaster Rock, married at 17 and had two daughters, Bonnie and Wendy, before the marriage ended in divorce.  She later married Richard (Dick) Thomas and had a son Ricky, who tragically drowned at two years of age.

After her first marriage ended she studied practical nursing at the Lady Dunn Trade School in St. Andrews.  Unfortunately, she was unable to complete the program due to the death of her mother, which left her without affordable childcare.  After her second marriage she worked a variety of jobs, most notably at JD Irving Tree Farm in Juniper as well as a brief stint at Ganong’s in St. Stephen.  Before her retirement she worked at the Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen, where she was employed in housekeeping, dietary and the hospital cafeteria.

Theresa loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and gardening.  She was an excellent cook, and loved to bake bread and make jams, jellies and other preserves.  She was an avid reader throughout her life, listening to audio books after she lost her sight due to macular degeneration.

She enjoyed travelling and took advantage of her daughter’s career in the air force to visit locations such as Ottawa, ON, Vancouver Island, BC, the United Kingdom, and New Mexico, USA.  She also went on several Caribbean cruises with her lady friends.

Theresa felt that she was truly blessed to have two grandchildren and four great grandchildren in her life.  She spent many hours with them before her physical decline and was always happy to listen or lend a helping hand.

She is survived by her daughters Bonnie (Terry) Hoffart and Wendy (Raymond) Roy, two grandchildren Emily (Brent) MacWilliams and Jason (Megan) Roy, and four great grandchildren, Tanner and Kaylin Guthrie, Logan MacWilliams and Jackson Roy.  She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Orin Thomas, and her son, Richard James Eugene Thomas, as well as her parents James and Monica (Duffy) Stone. 

Funeral services will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street St. Stephen, N.B. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 2 pm.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 pm.
