Erika passed away peacefully on Friday March 6, 2026 at the age of 98.
Erika was born in Dresden, Germany to Klara Selma and Kosmas Plußsollner. She became a Canadian Citizen after emigrating following the end of WWII.
Erika was predeceased by two beloved husbands, John Whitlock in 1983 and later Charles Edward Brown (Ed) in 2013. She is survived by her loving stepchildren from her marriage with Ed: Robert (Marion), Bill, Sharon, Janet and Carolyn (Stephen). Erika was a devoted grandmother to Ben (Jess), Colin, Margaret and Patrick.
From her German family: Erika was predeceased by her sisters Helga (Elio) and Sigrid and her brothers Hans and Deiter (Renata). She is survived by her sister-in-law Sonja, niece Sandra (Stefen) and nephew Reiner (Marike).
From her Canadian family: Erika was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Linda, brothers-in-law Ted and Bob and sisters-in-law Bessie, Carrie and Margaret. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Marilyn (Dave) and Theresa as well as many nieces and nephews.
Erika had a proud career, working as a Lab Technician and Supervisor at various Food Production Plants in Scarborough. She has always been a stalwart and loving friend with co-workers and neighbours. Erika along with her husband Ed were longtime residents of Longmoor Terrace Apartments (1992-2026). Erika will be deeply missed by her friends and neighbours in the building especially Adina (Chris), Marie and Helen who all helped her live independently long into her 90s.
Anyone who has loved and been loved by Erika will possess a box full of personalized hand-written greeting cards from birthdays, Christmas’ and special holidays. She always loved her correspondence and marking the years and important milestones through these cherished greetings both given and received. Thank you to all who filled her full life with love, joy and endless memories.
Funeral Services were held at Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Homes, Burlington Chapel, 2241 New Street, Burlington, Ontario on Thursday March 12, 2026
Interment will take place in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery, St Stephen, N.B. at a later date.
