Elwell Linwood Pierce1914-2008 With his family at his side, Elwell Linwood Pierce passed away peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on June 16, 2008. Born in Milltown, New Brunswick on December 7, 1914, he was the son of the late James and Alice (Fraser) Pierce.Elwell attended Crocker Hill School and was a graduate of M.T. Crabbe Business School. He was a member of the Carleton York Regiment before entering the Canadian Air Force in 1944. He served Overseas in Belgium and England for the duration of World War II. Elwell received a special award for taking part in the liberation of Holland from the oppressions of the war. He worked at DeWolfe Hardware for a number of years and for the Federal Government of Canada for 25 years, before retiring on December 6, 1979. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Ducks Unlimited and Eastern Star. Elwell was a avid hunter, fisherman and a Registered Guide. He was also a founding member of the Scoodic Fish and Game Association. He was past president of the Royal Canadian Legion and an Honourary Board Member and Elder of Kirk McColl United Church of Canada. He was predeceased by his wife, the late Priscilla (Wood) Pierce, a son, Willard James of Campbellton and two brothers, Herman and Kenneth. Elwell was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by two children, Ruth Clark (Richard) Merrimack, New Hampshire, Bob Pierce (Pat) of Moncton, New Brunswick and one sister, Mildred Linton (Wes) of St. Stephen. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Perry, Michael, Jane, Liane, Lori, Carla, Tina and Mark and thirteen great grandchildren, several nieces, nephew and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Visiting hours will be at S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home, St. Stephen, NB, on Wednesday June 18th from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. The funeral is at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 19th at Kirk McColl United Church, King Street, St. Stephen, NB. Interment at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.
