Edward “Ted” D. LaPorte

The family of Edward “Ted” D. Laporte are saddened to announce his passing on Sunday July 9, 2026, in Amherstburg, Ontario.

Ted was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1944, to the late Bernard and Jean LaPorte.

He spent most of his teenage years in Halifax, before seeing a job opportunity and moving to St Stephen, NB.

In 1963, he began training as a short order cook at the “Lobster Haven Restaurant” and that training became the door that opened his lifelong career and passion in the food service industry.

A few years after moving to St Stephen, he met Sylvia Ross, a local girl. After a brief courtship they married and in time raised their family, two boys; Edward (II) “Teddy” and Bernard “BJ”.

In 2017 after 54 years of living in St Stephen, Ted moved to Amherstburg, Ontario, where he spent his remaining years close to his sisters; Carol and Gloria along with their loving families.

Ted will be best remembered for his gentle, unassuming buy generous nature. His kind heart, as one who loved to share all that he had, including meals he prepared with family, friends and neighbours. Comparable in stature, to singing legend, Burl Ives.

His laughter and quick retort, “go to hell” to playful and teasing, were commonplace sounds overheard everywhere he was present. His joy of life, humor and laughter always took a backseat to his love of family and of course all things tasty.

Ted will be so missed, but all who reminisce will smile as they remember the man called “Dad”, Papa, Uncle Ted, Big Ted, brother or just plain “Ted”.

He leaves behind his former spouse, lifelong friend and love; Sylvia, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he treasured so dearly, siblings; Carol (Glen), Gloria (Norm), Cindy (Paul) and Bruce (Lana), several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and his many friends over the years.

In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by his two sons; Teddy and BJ, whom were his stability and focus on all his life and his brother; Robert, all of whom he has now rejoined.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday September 12, 2026, 11am at the Milltown Catholic Cemetery, Barter Settlement, NB.
