Dorothy “Dot” Murchie, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Tower Hill, NB. She was born in Grand-Mére, QC, to Charles S. and A. Mildred (Bustin) Kee.
Dot grew up in Saint John, NB, and moved to St. Stephen, NB, after her marriage to Doug. While raising her family, she worked at Wandlyn Inn, McKim & Giddens, Budd Ave Save-Easy, Halstead Electric, Texas Steel, BMO, and Royal Bank. She later worked at Lonicera Hall as a Supervisor, then served on the Board, and finally became a resident there in 2019.
Dot was a trained soprano and will be remembered for her solos at numerous weddings and funerals. She was a member of Kirk-McColl United Church and the KM UCW, singing in the choir and serving as Choir Director for a time. Most recently, she sang with the Voices of the Bay choir and the band Steppin’ Out. Dot served as a New Brunswick Senior Goodwill Ambassador, volunteered with Dial-A-Ride, delivered Meals on Wheels, was active with the local PC Party, and enjoyed playing Bridge.
Dot is survived by her children, Bill Murchie of St. Stephen, NB, Judy Mitchell (Don) of Tower Hill, NB, Beth Murchie (John Bryden) of Stillwater Lake, NS, and Gordon Murchie (Alanna) of Red Deer, AB, and her grandchildren, Kyle Mitchell and Tanis Mitchell, of Edmonton, AB, David Mitchell (Jess) of Tower Hill, NB, Melissa Murchie (Tyler) of Winnipeg, MB, Ben Bryden and Henry Bryden of Halifax, NS. She is also survived by her cherished nieces and nephews: Gail, Stu, John, Bruce, Marion, Susan, Janet, Charles, Cindy, Cathy and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Douglas D. Murchie, sisters Margaret Dickson (Alex) and Frances Forbes (Doug), brother Charles S. Kee Jr. (Lillian), and nephew, Graham Murchie.
We will celebrate Dot’s life at Kirk-McColl United Church, 70 King Street, St. Stephen, NB, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 2 pm with Rev. Andrew Jensen officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 1-2 pm. Interment will take place at the Old Ridge Cemetery at a later date.
