Burpee P. Merchant

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden and unexpected passing of Burpee Merchant on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at his home in St. Stephen, NB.

Burpee was the son of Florence Merchant and the late Dyas Merchant. An avid outdoorsman, he was happiest when he was hunting, fishing, or simply spending time in nature. Throughout his illness and declining health, Burpee maintained an admirable strength, never losing his sharp wit or his wonderful sense of humour.

He will be deeply missed by his mother, Florence Merchant; his siblings, Debby Trafton (Billy Densmore), Vida Bell, Lucille Merchant, Bernard Merchant (Olga), and Roselle Merchant; his niece, nephew and several great-nieces and nephews; and a large extended family of cousins.

In addition to his father, he is predeceased by his brothers-in-law; Francis Trafton and Robert Bell.

Funeral service will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 2 PM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-2 PM.
