Benjamin Hinton

HINTON- At Lincourt Manor, St Stephen, NB, May 28, 2011, Benjamin Hinton passed away at the age of 93. Born at Robbinston, Maine, the son of the late Herbert and Una (Leeman) Hinton and the adopted son of the late Miss Gertrude H. McKellar of Calais, Maine.Ben is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty M. (White) Hinton of St. Stephen, NB, daughters, Joan E Tubbs (James) of Rollingdam, NB, Jane C. Follis (Richard) of St. Stephen, NB, grandchildren, John B Ames (Holly Doucette) of St. Stephen, NB, Rachel J. Ames of Toronto, ON, sister, Mrs Hilda M. Brown of Waterville, Maine, 1 "special" great granddaughter, Emma Babcock , special friend, Tonya Curran, several nieces and nephews. Ben was a life member of the St Croix Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star Orion Chapter #45 and the First Congregational Church all in Calais, Maine.He worked at the Alexander-Buick Garage in Calais until his retirement. In his younger years he travelled extensively, making two trips to California and across Canada with Miss McKellar. He had many interests especially in history and music, but his main interest was in automobiles, especially the older models. He had approximately 36 cars in his lifetime.Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Arthur, Weldon, Herbert(Max) and Clinton, one sister, baby Grace and one nephew Darrell Hinton.Resting at The S. O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., from where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 2 PM. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.Interment at Calais City Cemetery, Calais, Maine.For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of ones choice would be appreciated by the family.
