Linda D. Black

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Diane Black, who died on Sunday, August 2, with her husband Harold, her partner of 60 years, at her side.

Born on August 23, 1947, in the town of Phelpston, Linda's life was defined by her deep love for her family and friends. She was known for her sense of humour, her courage, and her gift for making everyone around her feel welcome and comfortable. Linda touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Linda and Harold shared sixty years together — a marriage built on loyalty, trust, and a love of dancing. They were, in every sense, soulmates. In her final years, as her health declined, Harold was with her through all of it — a slower, steadier dance that carried them through the last chapter, one partner seeing the other home. It was love given freely and fully, and Linda took comfort in it to the very end, with his hand in hers.

A beloved member of the communities of Elmvale and Dunnville, and of St. Stephen in her final years, Linda built a career in real estate, where her honesty and warmth made her someone people trusted. She had a genuine love for others and never met a conversation she did not enjoy. Her kindness and enthusiasm drew people to her wherever she went.

As a girl, she found refuge in the trees she climbed, and that early solace grew into a lifelong bond with the natural world. It stayed with her always and was reflected in her joy in painting, gardens, flowers, ponds, and sunny days.

She is survived by her loving children: Michael (Beth), Matthew (Brittany), and Jason; and her grandchildren, Saige, Lily, Wilder, Forrest, John, and Henry. She also leaves behind her brothers Harry and Les (Marie), and her sisters Debbie (Tim) and Lisa (Greg). Linda will be dearly missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, and their families, and by her devoted furry companions, Opal and Sir Sam, whose warmth and closeness brought her daily comfort and joy in her final years.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Elva Gillespie; her brothers John and Ed (Donna); her sister Edna (Bill); and her sister-in-law Connie.

In keeping with her wishes, Linda requested cremation and asked for no funeral. Her family will honour her memory privately.

The family extends their deep gratitude to all the staff at Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen, NB, who brought her peace during her final days. Special thanks go to Dr. Lisa McKnight for her excellent care.
