Joanne M. Sweeney

It is with sadness that the family of Joanne M. Sweeney announce her passing at the Charlotte County Hospital, St Stephen, N.B. on Thursday, May 22, 2025.

Born in St. Stephen, N.B., she was the eldest daughter of the late Donald and Anita Clarke and predeceased by her sister Mary Chris. Joanne is survived by two loving sisters, Saundra Craigen and Jeanne Arbuckle.

Joanne, wife of Paul Sweeney, was a devoted mother of three children, Michael (Beth), Catherine (Gerry) and Donald (Christine). She is survived by seven grandchildren, Megan, Shawn, Mitchell, Brooke, Sarah, Jarrod and Tyler. Joanne also has three great grandchildren, Emme, Ryder and Cali and a fourth great granddaughter is soon to bless the family. All her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins have been a significant part of Joanne’s life and commitment to family.

Joanne started her professional career at the Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank and Central Trust but she always prioritized her family, her faith, long walks and her love of all gardening! The family’s lakeside cottage was her refuge as she longed to host everyone for washer tournaments, card games and to share more love and laughter than anyone can imagine!

Joanne taught every family member how to give and to forgive, to laugh and to cry, to love and to be loved. Her strength and devotion to family were ever present until she peacefully drew her last breath with her husband of 64 years by her side and holding her hand.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, 407 Milltown Blvd., St Stephen, N.B. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 11 AM. The family will receive friends at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St Stephen, N.B. on Monday, May 26, 2025 from 6-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Catholic Woman’s League of the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church would be appreciated in Joanne’s memory. Condolences may be sent to the family online at mehanfuneralhome.ca
