Robert S. Ames

1952 - 2024

Suddenly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Robert S. Ames passed on Friday, July 19, 2024.

Born at the Chipman Memorial Hospital, St Stephen NB in 1952 son of the late Cyril and Myrtle (Carr) Ames. He resided in Lawrence Station his entire life other than spending falls and winters before starting school at a lumber camp near Big Kedron. He attended school in Lawrence Station for the early years and graduated from St Stephen High School in 1971 where he also met the love of his life, his wife of 49 years Linda (McCaffrey). He graduated from Maritime Forest Ranger School in 1974. From there he worked for Irving Woodlands and then had his own logging business up until retirement in 2014.

Over the years he was a member of the Ramrodders Black Powder, Quoddy Trappers Council, St Stephen Chapter #8 OES & Sussex Lodge #7. He enjoyed gardening, four wheeling, skidooing, hunting and his favourite hobby fishing. Most recent years he took up feeding the wild turkeys and enjoyed taking a daily head count.  

Robert is survived by his wife, three children, Matthew (April) Ames, Charter’s Settlement NB, Amy (Scott) Slipp, Grand Bay NB, Joshua (Katie) Ames, DeWolfe NB, two grandchildren Sydney Slipp and Drew Slipp of Grand Bay NB, sister Patricia Ames (Terry MacKinnon), God Daughter Carolyn Daze and God Son Jason Sewell. Sister-in-law Marlene (Harry) Sewell, Dwayne (Andrea) McCaffrey, Dennis (Sandra) McCaffrey and several nieces and nephews.

Resting at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. from where the funeral service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 at 2 PM. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 3-6 PM and on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 1-2 PM. A livestream link will be available on Monday for those unable to attend.

Interment at Brockway Union Cemetery, Brockway, N.B.
