Mom passed peacefully at the Charlotte County hospital with family at her side. She was 91 years young! This last year she had some health issues and was very tired. All she wanted was to be with her Lord and the love of her life for 60 plus years, our father Douglas Lord.
Anyone that knew her, knew her spunk! Just over 5ft tall, she could work circles around most! She took care of her family and friends both physically and emotionally. Her homes were always the drop in spot and there always was fresh tea, baked goods and many meals at the family table.
At 15 (that’s in the 1940’s), Grammy Cook put her on a train from Maine to New York City, where she cared for her Aunt Olive for the better part of a year. Imagine a young Dewolfe Corner girl in that big city!
Over the years, she worked at Ganong’s, the Saint Croix Courier, Dr. Omar’s office and babysat many children. (Shannon, Tanya & Jared, and Darren to name a few.) She and dad were also foster parents to a number of children; including Arlene Alexander who she considered a daughter. She did all this while raising her 6 children and managing a loving home filled with smells of bread, pies, donuts and fun & laughter. She loved a practical joke.
She is predeceased by her husband, Douglas Lord, all of her siblings – Tom (Grace), John (Kay), Ivan, Ronnie (Liz), Blair (Elaine), and Moira as well as her grandsons Craig, John & Gus and May’s partner Winston Johnson.
She is survived by her children - Bonita Haney (Winnipeg, MB), Mitzi (Robert) Fortin (Midland, Texas), Rick (Dorrie) Lord (Blacks Harbour, NB), Tami (Garth) Turner (Dauphin, MB), Tavis (James) McLennan (Middleton, NS), May McAllister (St. Stephen, NB), and Arlene Alexander (St. Stephen, NB.)
Also survived by grandchildren, Jeff Haney(Heather) (Manitoba), Ralph Clinch(Maria) (Manitoba) Tammy McLaughlin (Larry) (St. Stephen, NB), Ian Lord (Christine) (Ontario), Ryan Lord (Bailey) (Ontario), Jeremy Dunn (Ontario) Ashley Dunn (Ontario), Brenda Turner ( Dauphine, MB), Shalene Turner (Saskatchewan), Nora McLennan (Nova Scotia), Tyler Cleghorn (St. Stephen, NB.) and her Great grand children - Nickolas, Julian, Lewis, Alara, Damon, Natasha, Julia, Anthony, Gary, Robbie, Sarah ,Daisy , Brad and Donnie as well as Great-great grandson, Cooper and Dorrie’s daughter Christina and her daughter Emma. Mom is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their children who were very dear to her.
Mom will be missed greatly by many family and friends including fellow believers at the Milltown Baptist Church, Milltown, NB and Mickey (Midland, Texas) and the Valley View Baptist Church in Midland Texas. We all will celebrate a life well lived!
Special thanks to grandson Tyler (living with Nana this past year), niece Beth Stinson (almost daily visits), Nancy Snow (Home care, molasses cookies and love), Melanie Milligan (Home care), Doc Lister (40 plus years of care and love) and the kind Nurses at Charlotte County Hospital.
