Cheryl Kent

1961 - 2021

Cheryl Lynn Marie Kent bid us all a fond farewell last Wednesday, October 20th, 2021, and probably had a funny joke ready to go for the occasion too. Everyone who knows Cheryl knows she liked to joke and tease. That was her style, she preferred to share humor and laughter…and she wasn’t shy about it.

Cheryl was born in Ontario to Frank and Shirley Kent on January 30th, 1961 but was raised, lived, and departed this world in Oak Bay. And it seems that just about everyone around St Stephen knew her. After graduating St Stephen High School, Cheryl attended NBCC for Refrigeration & A/C and became quite handy. After completing college, Cheryl enjoyed her job at the Call Center in St Andrew’s, especially when it provided her opportunities to travel. She worked for many years before retirement and was known to instigate good times with her coworkers.

Also known to her closest friends as "Moosie," Cheryl loved to have a chat and was often found sharing dinner recipes or sitting around a campfire telling funny stories from years past and reminiscing about all the trouble her siblings and cousins and she would get into and mostly get out of. Cheryl also genuinely cared for her friends and family and was often a "go-to" for people with troubles on their mind; and if she couldn’t help you solve it, she’d at least always be there to talk with. She kept her home open to anyone in need but was often found out and about town, helping friends and family with rides and waving to everyone as she went along. As one of her friends put it, Cheryl had "a heart as big as the outdoors and a smile even larger."

That being said, Cheryl was not one for beating around the bush. She was honest and frank (maybe even blunt) and wasn’t shy about that either. She wore her heart on her sleeve so there was never any confusing where she stood on a matter or how much she loved her family, especially her children, Corey and Katlyn, and grandchildren, Addilyn and Denver, and all her adopted and extended family, many for whom she was like a second mother. She was a constant and dependable source of love and support for those who needed her.

Now when it came to her lifetime beau, Darrell, she liked to philosophize that she "may not always be right, but was never wrong" and he must have at least secretly agreed given the more than 30 years they shared together.

As for that joke Cheryl undoubtedly had queued up in her thoughts last week? Well, I believe if we live a good life, helping others in their time of need, sharing humor and friendliness when and where we can, and staying close and loyal to our friends and family, then we’ll get a chance to hear it sometime when we all meet again. Godspeed Cheryl Kent.
