Miriam Rose Piercy

Miriam Rose (Crain) Piercy passed away peacefully at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB on October 20th, 2010.

She was born on February 15th, 1930, in Johnville, NB, the 7th of 13 children of the late John and Rose (Dugan) Crain. In her twenties she became the housekeeper for the Rev. J. Arthur Burns and in 1959, this position brought her to McAdam, where she made her home for the next 51 years. Over the years, she was particularly active in the St. Clement's CWL and the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies' Auxiliary. She served on the School Board for many years and worked as a homemaker for seniors. She was famous for her baking, especially her pies, which were in high demand for many a wedding, community supper and at the local diners. Her passions included bowling, knitting and crocheting, picking berries and fiddleheads, making Christmas wreaths and doing jigsaw puzzles. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. But her first love was her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she doted on. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, LeRoy Piercy; four children: John Piercy (Joanne), Ross Piercy (Tracy), Anita Duplessis (John) and Rose Dyer (Dennis); six grandchildren: Aaron Duplessis, Courtney and Meghan Piercy, Adrian Dyer, Dale and Sarah Piercy; three sisters: Anita Crain, Constance Banks and Eleanor Kane, one brother, Thomas Crain; and very special friends Susan and Stewart McCulloch and family.

She was predeceased by her father and mother; a son, David; and eight brothers and sisters: Joseph Crain, Mary Catherine Crain, Clement Crain, Dorothy LeBlanc, Mary Crain, Margaret Boyd, Edmund Craine and Catherine McQuade.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the 3rd and 4th floors of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Dr. Paul Smith and the staff at the McAdam Health Centre, the ambulance attendants, and all who helped the family during her illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clements Roman Catholic Church, McAdam, on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 11:00 am. Visiting hours will be held at the church on Friday, October 22, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the charity of ones choice.
