Cameron David Moffatt Sr. passed away quietly and peacefully surrounded by his family on November 4, 2006. After spending most of his life in St. Stephen, N.B., he spent his last 8 years in Welsford, N.B. where he was active in the Greenwich Legion #48, the Welsford United Church and regularly attended the card games in Wirral.Cameron was a World War II veteran having spent 5 1/2 years in active duty overseas. He signed up with the New Brunswick Rangers and transferred to the Royal Canadian Engineers while overseas. Upon returning from overseas duty, Cameron was employed as a carpenter, worked at the Post Office and eventually transferred to Customs and Excise at the St. Stephen N.B. border crossing where he remained until his retirement in 1982. He was a loyal Legion member serving as president of the St. Stephen Branch #9 in the early 70's. Also an active member of several branches of the Masonic Fraternity.Cameron was a true family man. He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years Hattie Margaret (Wyman) (Smith) Moffatt in 2002. He is survived by three sons Tom Smith (Sybil) of Welsford, N.B., Cameron Moffatt Jr. (Marilyn) of Fredericton, N.B. and Peter Moffatt (Jo-Anne) of St. Stephen, N.B. Cameron dearly loved his 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren as well as his many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brother Philip Moffatt (Betty)of St. Stephen, N.B.Being an avid outdoorsman, Cameron loved hunting and fishing with his sons and shared his knowledge of carpentry freely with them helping wherever possible.Cameron loved the Lord and was a member of the Union Street Atlantic Baptist Church where he served for many years as a Sunday School teacher, and held many positions on various boards and committees, including that of Honorary Deacon. He will be greatly missed but we take comfort in the knowledge that he is happily reunited with his love, Hattie.Resting at the S. O. Mehan and Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main St., St. Stephen, NB. (506-466-1844) from where funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 07, 2006 at 2 PM. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, November 06, 2006 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM Interment at the St. Stephen Rural Cemetery, St. Stephen, NB. For those who wish memorials to the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
